Community Activities

Communities as Unique as the Local Membership

Activities vary from Stoa to Stoa. Here is a list of things you might see during the year:

Meetings and Events
On average monthly. A time to discuss the philosophy and enjoy fellowship in Stoic related activities as diverse as discussions, nature walks, practice exercises, and others that conform to the nature of the local community.

Service
In honor of Marcus Aurelius’ birthday, April is the Month of Service. Explore the many volunteer opportunities in your community and beyond in the service of others. Examples include food banks, park clean-ups, and shelters.

Practice
July is the Fellowship Month of Practice. Work together to learn new skills, expand abilities and form new habits. Game nights, explorations in nature, focused discussions and exercises are examples.

Stoicon-X
Stoicon is held every year in September or October. Stoicon-X is a local event and opportunity for local Stoics to get together, celebrate, and share the Stoic philosophy with the community at large.

Oikeiosis Pilot Project

The Oikeiosis Project will help members of The Stoic Fellowship cultivate a sense of connection and community across boundaries (geographic, social, political, gender, racial, linguistic, generational, ability, etc.). We aim to foster cosmopolitanism and inclusivity as part of our regular Stoic activities, welcoming and supporting Stoics from a broad range of backgrounds. To this end we will:

  • Foster connections between people with specialized interests/needs, helping them to feel supported in the Stoic community
  • Promote an inclusive Stoic worldview in Fellowship activities and resources
  • Advance underrepresented individuals and groups in Stoicism

Guidelines for establishing an affiliation group:

  • While the group may revolve around a specific interest or need, it must remain open to all
  • The group must be accessible to all Stoic Fellowship members (online only)
  • The group must adhere to the Stoic Fellowship inclusivity policy
  • Groups may be started by individuals, not organizations

Procedure for establishing an affiliation group:

  • Contact Us with your group idea
  • The Board will discuss your application and notify you of our decision
  • If accepted, your group will be listed with The Stoic Fellowship and we will be happy to assist you with getting your group off the ground in any way we can
  • Contact Us if we can assist you in any way
